Great news, we’ve got a calendar of mid-week cycle events now in place for across the Summer months.

It would be great to see you all along.

Pitched at all abilities, they are fun, challenging, easy or as hard as you like, competitive, non-competitive, whatever you want them to be!

There are no prizes (well maybe some spot prizes) for winning just the satisfaction of feeling tired after a good effort.

All events will take place on a Wednesday and start at 7PM, unless otherwise communicated, we ask that you arrive by 6:45PM at the latest so we can register your name.

Here are the dates and the locations, for definitions of the events see below:

    20th May – TT – Location: Carmylie Hall – Distance: 8 Miles

    3rd June – APR – Location: Carmylie Hall – Distance: 16 Miles

    17th June – 2UP – Location: Carmylie Hall – Distance: 16 Miles

1st July – APR – Glen Clova Loop – Location: Gella Bridge Car Park – Distance: 26 Miles

Friday 3rd July – Drover’s Inn Social Event – Distance: TBC – (Beer, Bike & Food – not necessarily in that order)

15th July – Hill Climb – Location: Carrot Hill – Location: Chapel Road – Distance: 1 Mile

29th July – APR – Location: Craichie – Distance: TBC

12th August – 10TT – Location: TBC – Distance: 10 Miles – We are hoping for a super accurate fast course to the inch or two!

It would be great if everyone could make the first event that way we can get an idea of your time to help us handicap correctly for the other events.

    Definitions:

TT – Time Trial – Race against the clock, each rider goes off in 1 minute intervals, basically pedal as fast as you can for a bit

APR – Australian Pursuit Race – Handicap event, riders are set off in groups of similar ability at set intervals and try not get caught by the faster groups in pursuit. Stay together or go it out alone, you decide

2UP – Basically a Time Trial but you do it with a mate, we’ll probably decide the pairings based on your previous times to even the field up

Hill Climb – You cycling up a hill either very fast or more likely very slowly…….

More details regarding exact start points will be sent out prior to the events.

For insurance purposes these events are open to members and prospective members only.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

The 10TT course I’m looking at will start at Arbirlot Primary School, head south west and follow this minor road to Muirdrum. Turn left and filter onto the A92 dual carriageway heading towards Arbroath. After 4 miles or so, turn left at Balcathie/ Arbirlot junction. Turn left at row of white houses who’s name escapes me right now. Head west again parallel to dual carriageway to West Balmirmer, turn left and head south east through Salmondsmuir under the dual carriageway and finish about Hatton Farm. I need to get the GPS out to measure more accurately than my bike computer.

Due the twisty nature of this course I’m christening this the Corkscrew 10. All left turns have good visibility except West Balmirmer but its a very quiet road.

I’ll need 3 or 4 marshals. The route will be signed.

    Max 25 club members only.

    More to follow.

OK folks, here’s a link to the 10TT route. Not one for the head down arse up TT rider, you will have to steer and control your bike through some technical sections.

I do need 5 marshals and someone to help with time keeping. Without help it’s a 10 mile club run!

Wednesday’s TT FFS! I’ve lost it.

In other event news the police required that everyone wear hi viz. I laughed and declined however can riders fit a small flashing red light for the TT. Apparently the dual carriageway section being the widest road on the route with no oncoming traffic is the hazardous bit. They’ve not a clue.
