Balgay Criterium

A pretty miserable day greeted riders at the Balgay Criterium in Dundee. The testing and very punchy course is a challenge in the dry however in the wet it adds a whole new dimension.

Francis Chesters, Nico Anelli and myself took to the start line for ABC. The pace in the first lap was relentless at over 37kmh on the 1.5km course. those that didn’t clip in quick enough at the start were soon left behind. Francis and I managed to dig in however Nico unfortunately got caught out and had the impossible task of trying to chase back on. I got caught out on the 4 or 5th lap on the turn at the descent from the observatory  and the leaders managed to get a gap, one I was not going to be able to close. Francis managed to get in this group and put in an excellent performance to mix it up with them to win the race in a sprint finish, an absolutely brilliant performance, I managed to get in a group of 3 and continued to put in a decent shift around the course, grabbing a 10th place spot after we picked off a few that got cooked by the lead group. Nico hung on in there and bagged himself 20th place.

Round 2 at Balgay Park is on Thursday at 1945. Nico, Simon, Francis and myself are back for more punishment, this time the race is open category which steps it up a level adding in category 2 racers.
